Eating while working a 12 hour shift!

I use to be someone who would go to the cafeteria and buy whatever was on the menu. I ate it without thinking of what I was putting in my body. I mean, I live in the south. Breakfast was the normal pancakes, biscuits with gravy, sausage or bacon. You can guess, I was getting the greasy and heavy foods every morning when I had time. Then for lunch was the same story, greasy goodness that sat like a brick on my stomach.
When I had gained 10 lbs during my first year working as a nurse I new I had to change. It's hard enough working the 12 hours. Sometimes, I felt like I could fall asleep after eating a late lunch while running down the hall. I had no energy. I wasn't fueling my body correctly.
I realized I needed to change. I started packing my own lunches, Salads, adult lunachables, rice bowls with veggies, those power boosting meals. My snacks went from chips, cookies, and cakes to peanuts and veggies. I stopped drinking soda and started only drinking water and of course coffee because your girl has to. I began to slowly drop weight and feel my energy levels increase.
It's was hard at first because the hospital and family members would bring cookies and and candies. Sometimes I still eat a them, I mean I don't deprive myself.
My daily food not only changed at work but it changed at home. I stopped eating red meat and mostly eat chicken or fish for a protein boost. My meals consist of rice, couscous and veggies. If you want some food ideas message me and I'll give you all kinds of yummy suggestions.
From your friendly neighborhood nurse! ❤️
